What Happens in the Aging Face
There are three major components of facial aging and the astute plastic surgeon looks to offer correction of all three areas for the most complete rejuvenation.
The first area of facial aging is caused by sagging skin and other tissues. This results in excessive skin in the neck and the formation of jowls. These are structural changes and are corrected by surgery such as a face lift.
The second area is loss of volume. This is when we see loss of fatty tissue in the face causing hollowing. Hollowing is seen around the eyes, the lips, in the area of the cheeks and in the area below the cheeks. These areas are improved with the use of "Filler Products" such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, Fat injection and implants.
The third and most difficult area of facial aging are changes in the texture of the skin. These textural changes etch the skin and are caused by a thinning of the skin due to loss of collagen, micro-scarring from repetitive movement of the muscles and sun exposure. Once the skin is etched there must be a change in the actual skin itself to correct it.
The majority of skin care focuses on treating the upper layers of the skin (the epidermis). Good skin care is important and preventative skin care even better, but if etching of the skin has already taken place, skin care for the treatment of the superficial layers of the skin will not yield any real correction or improvement.
The Hetter Peel addresses the textural issues of the face resulting
in a real and permanent change by altering the deep structure
of the skin. Damaged, aged skin is replaced with radiant,
smoother, thicker and healthier skin.
